What will guests wear to Taylor Swift's wedding of the century?

As rumors swirl about her imminent New York City nuptials, megastar Taylor Swift - a master at controlling her public image - has kept any details under wraps.

Swift, 36, who has been mum on the subject, may be marrying Kansas City Chiefs football star Travis Kelce, 36, on Friday. They were engaged in August 2025.

Despite the apparent location - Madison Square Garden in the middle of crowded, bustling Manhattan - the event remains mysterious: Will it really be Friday? How do you transform the giant sports venue into a wedding one? Will there really be a castle? Who's invited?

But for the invitees (a rumored 1,100 guests) - here's the most important question: What are you wearing?

Some possible guests - a few spotted in New York this week - are likely to lean into softer, but also very classic, traditional and clean styles favored by Swift, fashion editor Savannah Bradley, told the BBC.

"I imagine everything will be very polished, pristine - again, romantic is that key word," she said. "I wouldn't be surprised if you see a lot of Gucci, a lot of Jonathan Anderson's Dior."

Swift's celebrity friend group – Selena Gomez, Suki Waterhouse, the Haim sisters, Cara Delevingne, Jack Antonoff, Sabrina Carpenter among them - reflects diverse tastes.

Nola Ojomu, an entertainment journalist, noted Carpenter's "distinctive old Hollywood glamour style" that will likely be her "choice of look for the wedding".

Some reports suggested a black tie dress code, complete with top hats for men and evening gloves for women. Us Weekly also reported, citing an unnamed insider, that guests were told the theme was "whimsical".

"Suki Waterhouse's natural boho style lends perfectly to the rumoured theme, and she is sure to have one of the more distinctive looks on the night along with the likes of Cara Delevingne," Ojomu said.

She predicted guests in "vibrant shades and flowy dresses", popular at summer New York weddings.

"Lighter lace material has made a comeback recently, as well as dresses with a chic multiway neck scarf."

With conflicting rumors of a livestream and phone bans, it's unclear if fans will get a glimpse into the wedding - either before, during, or after. Guests may not know whether outsiders will see their outfits, and may dress less for the public and more for other guests.

So what do celebrities consider when dressing for their A-list peers?

It used to be all about flaunting your wealth, Bradley said, but now it's all about showcasing your taste and vision.

"In terms of dressing for other celebrities, you have a lot of people who might be wearing archival, you know, Chanel 1994 or Ralph Lauren 2005, or will wear something that they've worn to another event, but they've restyled it in an interesting way."

And of course, guests must avoid upstaging the bride.

It's "a really interesting line to walk when you have many guests who have the monetary luxury of being able to wear custom designer or archival designer," Bradley said.

Ojomu said guests may choose "more daring looks than the average wedding guest", but would definitely know not to steal attention from the bride.

As for Swift's look, it's likely she would choose a custom piece, experts say.

She has close relationships with designers Stella McCartney, Vivienne Westwood and Sarah Burton, Bradley said.

Something from Oscar de la Renta or Christian Siriano also could be right up Swift's alley, she said. "A corset wouldn't shock me. She loves a corset."

Sarah Chapelle, writer and founder of fashion blog Taylor Swift Style, pointed out that Kelce "genuinely loves fashion" and might be an eye-catching groom.

"You will often see Travis sporting patterns or bright colors - pieces that are bold, playful, and fun. A colorful jacket for the reception and beyond seems up his alley."

Ojomu noted that Swift might go for "her fairytale moment" with something that "evokes the look of a princess ball gown" for her main dress. "Her dress will likely be a classic corset dress with an A-line skirt."

But she noted that the couple loves to party, too.

"I think she will change her dress to something more lightweight and free-flowing by Stella McCartney or possibly Ralph Lauren," she said.

"As for Travis, he could go for something a bit more fun, like Thom Browne, when the celebrations are in full swing."
